On a February holiday, I decided to finally go to see the Icicles of Misotsuchi in Chichibu, which I’d always wanted to visit. After enjoying the breathtaking scenery, I found Chichibu Kawabata Onsen Bon-no-Yu, known as the top bicarbonate hot spring in the Kanto area. It looked like it would be great for my dry skin.

Ryokami Onsen – Yakushi-no-Yu
Today’s main plan was a challenging day hike up Mt. Ryokami. With snow on the trail, I had to use light crampons, and the significant elevation change – especially the strain on my legs during the descent – left me with wobbly knees and thoroughly exhausted. Honestly, I was ready to soak in any hot spring I could find, so I stopped by Ryokami Onsen Yakushi-no-Yu, conveniently located next to a roadside station.
Continue readingOku-Nasu – Kita Onsen Ryokan
Kita Onsen Ryokan, famous for its striking red tengu mask overlooking the bath, has long been a hot spring I wanted to visit. Recently, I found a route that connects the Nasu mountains – Chausu-dake, Asahi-dake, and Sanbon-yari-dake – and leads down to Kita Onsen. Given the course timing, it seemed feasible to do as a day trip, and since there was little chance of snow, I decided to explore the late autumn scenery in Nasu and end the day relaxing at Kita Onsen.

After finishing my hike to Daibosatsu Peak, I planned to relax at the Unpo-so in Sakeishi Onsen, but unfortunately, there was a sign saying “No baths today” due to COVID-19. I looked for another nearby hot spring and found Daibosatsu no Yu, which has interesting high-alkaline water.

I’ve been willing to enjoy Akagi Onsen’s nigori-yu. However there’s my favorite Nashiki Onsen nearby, hence when I make a trip to this area, it’s always been my choice. So today, after climbing Mt.Akagi, I decided to stop by Akagi Onsen for a day-trip onsen.

I didn’t expect that there was actually a lot of snow in this season in Mt.Shifutsu. Hence, I wanted to warm up my cold body as soon as possible. Right after I went back to the parking lot of Oze Togura, I headed to the Togura-no-yu of Oze Purari Kan, which was next to the parking lot, but it was closed due to COVID-19. So I tried to find alternatives and found Nango Onsen Shakunage-no-yu, a day trip bathing facility. Seeing that there is a hot spring stand where you can take hot spring back home, I was sure that this onsen must be good.
Continue readingHayabusa Onsen
This is actually my second visit to the Hayabusa Onsen in Enzan. After climbing Mt. Kinpu today, I was driving around looking for a hot spring to go to. Then, I came to a familiar street near the Erinji Temple and remembered that there was Hayabusa Onsen nearby, with its characteristic slimy and smooth hot spring.

After climbing Mt. Tanigawa, the first place that came to my mind when I thought about which hot spring to stop by was Minakami Onsen. It’s a relatively large hot spring town, so I thought it would be interesting to walk around. But when I was looking at the map, I suddenly noticed Tanigawa Onsen. I had never been to there before, even though I used to visit this area often. So I decided to drop by Yu Therme Tanigawa in Tanigawa Onsen.
Continue readingMasutomi Onsen – Masutomi-no-yu
After climbing Mt. Mizugaki, a strange looking mountain with a forest of rocky peaks, I headed to Masutomi-no-yu in Masutomi Onsen. Around here, Foro-kaku is probably the most famous with many therapeutic bathers seeking the benefits of radium hot spring. But unfortunately it is only for overnight guests. Since it was a day-trip onsen after mountain climbing, I went to Masutomi-no-yu, a day trip onsen facility.
Continue readingYubiso Onsen – Nakaya Ryokan
On the way back from hiking trip to see Ichinokurasawa, the world-famous steep cliff of Mt. Tanigawa, I stopped by Yubiso Onsen. I noticed this small Yubuso Onsen while heading to Ichinokurasawa, so I was thinking about visiting here on the way back. Although most of the inns were closed for day-trip onsen due to the COVID-19, Nakaya Ryokan was probably the only one which was open today.
