[Website] Kaike Onsen Seaside Hotel Umi no Shiki (Japanese)
I visited Tottori after a while for family matters and had a desire to climb Mt. Daisen during my stay, hoping to find an onsen near the mountain. I wanted to explore somewhere other than my usual spot, Misasa Onsen, so this time I chose Kaike Onsen. Many people might not realize that along the Sea of Japan coast in Tottori, there are several onsens, including Tottori Onsen, Yoshioka Onsen, Hamamura Onsen, Togo Onsen, and Hawai Onsen.

Kaike Onsen Seaside Hotel Umi-no-Shiki is located right by the sandy beach, offering stunning views of the sunset. In summer season, you can enjoy a festive atmosphere with fireworks lighting up the night sky.

The hotel’s onsen on the second floor boasts an open view of the sea. It’s a pleasant surprise to find that the onsen water flows freely, spilling over the edges and onto the floor. Kaike Onsen was discovered in 1900 when fishermen found bubbling springs in the sea, initially enjoying outdoor baths. The source has a high temperature of 85°C and a significant flow rate of 3,800 liters per minute.
The source used by the Seaside Hotel has a temperature of 63.8°C, with a pH of 7.3, and is classified as a sodium-calcium chloride spring. The water has a slight brownish tint. Because of its proximity to the sea, the onsen water has a strong salty taste, with a high mineral content of 12,940 mg/kg, making it warming the body very much.

On this particular day, the outside temperature exceeded 38°C, so I enjoyed cooling off in an air-conditioned room while unwinding in a massage chair – pure bliss!
