After hiking Mt. Ibuki and exploring the historic Sekigahara battlefield, I wanted to relax in a hot spring, so I found Yusen-no-Sato in Yoro Onsen. The reviews mentioned its unique onsen water, which piqued my interest.

Driving through the peaceful plains from Sekigahara, I soon came across a lovely campsite with mountain views, and right next to it was Yusen-no-Sato, a day-trip hot spring facility.

The facility offers three indoor baths and a sauna. One bath contains cold water , while the other two contain brownish hot spring water. One bath is directly sourced, while the other is heated. The outdoor bath is also filled with the same mineral-rich hot spring water.

Yoro Onsen’s water is a sodium-calcium chloride spring with a temperature of 40.7°C. The tea-colored water is odorless but surprisingly salty when tasted. With a total mineral content of 8,349 mg/kg, it’s quite a distinctive spring.

The outdoor bath was wide and comfortable. On this day, jazz music was playing, and many people were lounging around, dozing off like turtles basking in the sun – it was amusing to watch. The tepid onsen water in the indoor bath was perfect, and if it were slightly cooler, I might have dozed off while soaking.

As expected, the chloride spring left me feeling thoroughly warmed. At this time of year, the temperature was just right, and even after leaving the bath, I stayed warm. My fatigue from hiking hit me hard, making me feel sleepy – it was the perfect setting for a nap in the rest area.

Feeling hungry, I visited the attached restaurant. The menu shown outside seemed fairly standard, but I found some interesting dishes in the menu provided in the restaurant. The doteni udon caught my eye – udon noodles, served sith rich beef tendon cooked in slightly sweet Hatcho miso. It was delicious and satisfying after a long day.
