After a tough summer hike up Mt. Arashima, I just wanted a nearby onsen to wash off the sweat and relax. That’s how I found Kuzuryu Onsen Heisei-no-Yu.

Luckily, I had the entire bath to myself that day! The indoor bath was spacious and refreshing, while the outdoor bath offered stunning views of blue skies and vibrant greenery. The water is clear, with a natural temperature of 26°C and a mineral content of 302 mg/kg. This onsen is a mildly alkaline simple hot spring, leaving your skin feeling smooth and refreshed, like a light moisturizer. Located near Fukui’s Dinosaur Museum and fossil sites, the outdoor bath even has an ammonite fossil replica as decoration. Though it was a hot summer day, the outdoor bath had shade and a nice breeze, making it really pleasant. If I could wish for one thing, it would be a bath with the spring water at its natural temperature.

After the bath, they offer free shaved ice! You make it yourself with a cylindrical block of ice, choosing between strawberry, blue Hawaii, or melon syrup. This is such a fantastic treat on a hot day, and it would be amazing if more places offered this kind of service.
