Kashitate Mukaizato Onsen – Fureai-no-Yu

[Access] About 10 minutes by car from Hachijojima Airport
[Fee] 300 yen

Another hot spring I visited in Hachijojima, besides Sueyoshi Onsen, was Fureai-no-Yu at Kashitate Mukai-zato Onsen. It was a lively place, filled with what seemed to be local visitors. The large wooden bathtub, made of hinoki (Japanese cypress), felt great, and the water was a warm, greenish-brown color with a high salt content, making it very warming.

Soaking in a hot spring like this on a sunny afternoon felt like time had stopped – it was incredibly relaxing. There was also an open-air bath, which was nice for the fresh air, but the view wasn’t particularly special.

It had a relaxing atmosphere that somehow reminded me of Onoaida Onsen in Yakushima, which I visited before.
